We are able to build websites for customers, and have been doing so since 2002.  For charities and ‘good works’ organisations we are prepared to do this for FREE - please click here for more details on free website building and hosting.  For commercial organisations, government departments, individuals and others we can provide a professional website at little cost.

Domain Name & Hosting

We can help you purchase your domain name and your hosting^† from the UK company we use.

Prices

We can source internationally-recognised .com and .org domain names for £10 per annum (minimum commitment 2 years) and website hosting suitable for most St. Helena business purposes for £20 per annum (minimum commitment 1 year).  (All prices subject to change.)

The website hosting plan we recommend for most businesses on St. Helena features:

• 50Mb of Webspace, hosted on fast UK-based servers (upgrades possible to 1,000Mb);

• 5Gb of data transfer per month (upgrades possible);

• 10 POP3/IMAP mailboxes (extra mailboxes possible), all with SPAM filtering, webmail access, unlimited email forwarding and unlimited auto-responders;

• Full online site usage statistics;

• Support for online configuration, full FTP access, unlimited sub-domains, Microsoft Frontpage 2003™ server extensions; Server Side Includes; Full CGI-BIN (Perl and Python scripts); PHP4, PHP5 and MySQL.

Search Engines

We will automatically register your site with the two leading search engines, Google™ and Microsoft’s Bing™.  This usually shortens the time before your site starts appearing in search results.

For the technically minded (only!)

We build sites manually using HTML and Java coding.  We know there are loads of fancy website-building packages out there but we think they produce far too much code to achieve even quite simple things.  More code means more webspace means more annual hosting costs, so all the wasted code costs you money.  If anyone knows of a website generator that can produce clean and efficient code with minimal waste please contact us - we'd genuinely like to know about it.  Until then we'll carry on doing it the way that produces the best site with the smallest space requirement.  More technical information here.

Internet Speed Test: How fast does yours go?

This simple utility will test the speed of your Internet connection and will report (separately) the download and upload speed.

Please note

• To get a reliable result you should ensure that there is nothing else using your Internet connection at the same time (e.g. your email program, antivirus downloads, Windows Update, etc.)

• The utility is provided by Broadband Speed Checker to whom any technical queries should be addressed (if you choose to visit Broadband Speed Checker we do not endorse any of the products or sites linked from their site)

• This test will use some of your monthly data allowance

• The utility is probably not suitable for testing dial-up Internet connections

• Please don't try to involve us in any "I'm not getting what I'm paying for" disputes with your Internet Service Provider
